Trumpet, blood dog, was crowned Best in Show at the 146th Westminster Kennel Club dog show on Wednesday night.
The show is the oldest continuous sporting event in the United States after the Kentucky Derby and was crowned one of the contestants who have won the group’s best competitions in the past.
The owners of the 4-year-old Trumpet are Chris and Bryan Flessner, Heather Buehner and Tina Kocar, accordingly WKC.
According to the WKC classifications, blood dogs are “one of the oldest dog breeds to hunt for odor. The discovery of a trained blood dog could be used in court, the club said.
French bulldog Winston took home the title of best reserve of the show. One of Winston’s owners is NFL defensive member Morgan Fox.
The show began Saturday at Lyndhurst Estate in Tarrytown, New York, marking its second year instead of its traditional home in Madison Square Garden, New York. The race was originally postponed due to Covid-19 problems.
Nearly 3,500 dogs took part in the competition – representing more than 200 breeds and breeds, according to the organizers’ press release.
