The family of Baltimore Ravens defender Jaylon Ferguson made a statement on Thursday to dispel rumors of the cause of his death.
Ferguson’s fiancée Doni Smith posted the comments on Twitter.
As TMZ Sports told Baltimore police, “investigators do not rule out the possibility of an overdose”.

“With deep sadness, we acknowledge the sudden departure of our beloved Jaylon Ferguson. Jaylon was a loving father, son, brother, fiancé, and an extraordinary athlete. speeches, text messages and support posts when he learned of his tragedy, “the statement began.

“Despite speculation in previous reports, Jaylon’s death has not yet been identified. It is one of the darkest moments in our lives and we are still completely shocked. We ask you to respect our privacy. We will navigate through this difficult time.
“Once again, thank you all for the love you have shown and special thanks to Baltimore Ravens and Louisiana University of Technology.”
Ferguson’s death was announced Wednesday. He was 26.
“We are deeply saddened by Jaylon Ferguson’s tragic departure,” the team said. “He was a kind, respectful young man with a wide smile and an infectious personality.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to Jaylon’s family and friends as we mourn the lives lost too early.”
Ferguson’s agent Safarrah Lawson also issued a statement.

“We are sadly announcing the departure of Jaylon Ferguson of Baltimore Ravens LB. The family is asking for your prayers and privacy during this difficult time,” Lawson said.

“Jaylon was a kind-hearted, gentle man who loved his family and team,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said in a statement. “It was a pleasure to talk to her and be around every day. You always wanted to see Fergi and talk to her. Our prayers and our help go to her family. Our hearts are with her Spirit. RIP, Jaylon.”
Ravens defender Tyrus Bowser added: “I and Ferg were going through the same difficulties we needed to make a name for ourselves in the league.
“From the game book, outside – and even outside of work – we made a strong bond. Whether I had a bad day or vice versa, we encouraged each other and I valued and appreciate it the most. I miss him. His positive energy, encouragement and faith they helped me to become the player and man I am today. He is longed for, but NEVER forgotten. Rest in peace, 45. “

Ravens picked Ferguson out of Louisiana Tech in the third round of the 2019 NFL. He played 14 games during his new season and received 31 rebounds, 2.5 bags and a rebound recovery.
In 2020, Ferguson played in 14 games and received 30 repulsions, 2 bags and an offensive game. In 2021, he played in only 10 games and received six sachets during that season.
Ferguson was a prominent defender of Louisiana Tech. He was named U.S. Defender of the Year at the 2018 Conference, and in 2017 and 2018, he was the first team to choose from the entire conference.
