The polite way to describe the biggest problem with Face of the Franchise is that Madden NFL players just wanted to get to the NFL faster in single player mode. Frankly, for the past three years, they have been forced to play through a slow-paced preamble full of story clichés, ridiculous dialogue, and barely earned progress.
“There was a lot of feedback about the prologue or draft of the trip, whatever you want to call it,” game producer Clint Oldenburg recalled in an interview at EA Tiburon’s new studio in Orlando, Florida. “It was like,‘ I want to go play in the NFL; take me there. […] And it’s a big headline: “The narrative seems pointless and pointless, and it has no context,” something like that. It was in one review. “
Whether there are two problems or different names with the same problem, EA Tiburon will try to fix it by launching Madden NFL 23The franchise face of The League created a player’s career in the fifth season. No more college, no more drafts, no more than half a dozen games due to Madden’s simplest difficulty, just to get into the abyss of New York Jets or Jacksonville Jaguars.
The faces of the franchise players will start as a free agent after the expiration of their newcomer contract, who can sign a contract with any selected team. In my opinion, this is the first single player career mode in any sport where the player created starts with something other than a newcomer.
“This is the first year that important priorities for this regime have been refocused,” Oldenburg said. Within three years of the franchise’s face becoming the true narrative of the regime’s two chapters – Madden NFL 18‘s and 19‘s Longshot – developers had given the story the highest priority, Oldenburg said. That’s a somewhat depressing statement, given the stories I’ve been going through about Maddens 20 through 22.
“The most important thing this year is the game and the main progress,” Oldenburg said. “This year we took a more modular approach; you will see far fewer longer and protracted scenarios that have no context for the activities you have undertaken during your career. What we’re going to do is take you into a weekly cycle to prepare for your game, play your game, get feedback, and get bonuses from the game.
Any film content follows the performance, and according to the modules, Oldenburg means that these scenes react to the player’s career developments, not dictate them. “So the cinema content that you and I see on our travels is definitely the same, but when you see it, and when I see it, it’s at different times,” he explained.
Certainly, many fans will have to see the player as a star or a bust for the fifth year, not someone with a lot of room for growth (the whole point of this career mode, of course), but his teams will still be available in a free agency. “The story we’re trying to tell is when you remember Matt Flynn [a quarterback from 2008-15] or Michael Turner [a running back, 2004-12]boys who didn’t have a new opportunity to play under their newcomer’s contract, but when they did, they played very well, ”said Oldenburg.
“So you’re a free agent, there’s a lot of talk about your potential, but you’ve never had that opportunity,” Oldenburg said. The created players will get a new position opportunity, a corner defender, in addition to the return options linebacker, wide receiver, runner and quarterback. They get a one-year contract with their preferred team, which means they have to pay attention to the depth schedule and the attack or defense scheme they choose. A New York Giants fan who creates a defender may think about Saquon Barkley’s test twice, unless they think they are evolving so much that management will sign them for a new five-year contract and their competition will be abandoned or replaced.
In this way, this one-year free agent contract works like the prologue of previous years; it just happens in the NFL and skips the pointless plots and camouflage that the college offered. If a player joins a team other than his favorite because it offers more playing time and better development, he has the opportunity to sign a longer-term contract as a much better player after only a year of seasoning.
It pushes the player in the direction that Madden’s designers have been selling for the past few years: an avatar that can be carried in multiple game modes and positions, sorting their attributes by class and gaining benefits to complement them. In Face of the Franchise, Oldenburg hopes that the repeat experience will come from taking this avatar to 99 in one position and then starting this mode in a new position. Although Face of the Franchise still has a career of 12 or more seasons, players are expected to reach 99 after five seasons, he said.
And it’s supported by Madden’s 99 clubs – which have been promoted by game marketers every time a real-life superstar hits that number – to established players. When they reach the milestones of the overall rating, they open up rewards, cosmetics and play opportunities for their character.
Oldenburg also hopes that Face of the Franchise: The League may become a presentation for many Madden 23the way you play changes. “These game mechanics were created with the franchise in mind,” Oldenburg said. “The face of the franchise: The league is now a real player lockout mode; we gave up full team control as an option.
Although the player’s new passing system and the ball’s new “360-degree cuts” are probably on most screens, Oldenburg pointed to other nuances of the game to give life to positions that don’t see the ball so much. For example, wide receivers can hold both the left and right triggers and combine them with movements of the right handle to create more counterfeits, knocks, and full-speed cuts as routes run off the line. The Cornerbacks use a new press defense mechanism that Oldenburg compared to the ball-top defense of a basketball video game.
“We’ve had them in the game before, but they were more of a paper-stone scissor, where you picked the ball from both sides and you can see how the communication is based on who chose the wrong side or the ball to the right,” Oldenburg said. “These are more branching and more reactive mechanics, where you can see the movement of the opponent in which direction [the play] goes and you can branch out in a short time to take that direction away. Players press the A / X button as they press their press and then point the left stick at the square they want to disable.
Overall, Face of the Franchise: The League has a stronger commitment to things that make a single-player athletic career special and fun, and something that gets rid of the components that have pushed me toward a regular franchise. Oldenburg noted that the designers drew attention to the fact that many of Madden’s streaming and content creators are still broadcasting their Face of the Franchise careers, and the developers want to give them something as fun to watch as to play.
The last three FOTFs did not have it at all; they seemed to have done everything I could not continue, and their basic experience can be greatly reproduced elsewhere with some menu tips. In other words, in three years, EA Tiburon could have simply given up his career as a single player in this disappointing wrinkle and sent everything back to the superstars created by the 10-year-old Connected Franchise.
They didn’t do it. Let’s see if what they saved was ever worth saving Madden NFL 23 will be released on August 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The game will also be available for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One on the same day, but this mode (and other features) will not be available on these platforms.
