Finally, this is an option for fans who want to watch Milwaukee Brewers games without a cable or satellite subscription.
On Thursday, Sinclair will launch Bally Sports +, a direct-to-consumer offer that allows you to purchase the Bally Sports Wisconsin app without an existing cable or satellite service. For $ 19.99 a month or $ 189.99 for an annual subscription, users can purchase the app and watch live Brewers games, and finally Bucks games in the fall.
Bally Sports Wisconsin broadcasts almost all of Brewers’ games and a significant number of Bucks games throughout the year, although post-season games are shown elsewhere. Bally Sports Wisconsin has not been offered for most two years by most wire cutting services, such as YouTubeTV or Hulu + LiveTV.
The change is part of a soft launch, meaning it only works in five “markets,” specifically for those watching Brewers, Detroit Tigers, Miami Marlins, Kansas City Royal and Tampa Bay Rays. Everyone in Wisconsin should be in Brewers territory and have access to the service.
“We want to learn from this experience before we go into the wider market and the rest of the country,” said Mike Dimond, CEO of Bally Sports North and Bally Sports Wisconsin. “We want consumer feedback because we want to deliver the best product in the long run.”
The product is the same application that already exists for viewers who use a cable / satellite account to access Bally Sports Wisconsin; it’s just a new door. In addition to live games, users can view pre-game and post-game content, as well as some extras, such as Minnesota Wild games.
The markets were selected because Sinclair owns the rights to these five directly to the consumer. Mr Dimond emphasized that Sinclair was subject to the same restrictions as all Major League Baseball broadcasts and that Brewers games could only be seen by those located in MLB-defined Brewers territory.
“Your access point must be in the territory based on your zip code,” Dimond said. “With the current application, you have couch rights that allow you to travel outside the (market) for 30 days, after which the device must return to the market as it is now.”
Dimond said BallySportsPlus.com will broadcast live on Thursday morning so users can sign up and watch the Brewers Day game. Against Louis Cardinals.
“This is an introductory launch, not a complete marketing activity,” said Dimond. “We’ll be there when we make a bigger release of the NBA and NHL season at the start of the season. You’ll see a marketing press that’s full of space. As a Wisconsin fan, Brewers and Bucks is part of it. “
He said he was aware that some users had problems with the current application, but believed that many issues with his organization had been resolved.
“We have full customer service support here; we’ve hired a third party to help us, and that’s what they do for a living, monitor social media and work with agents to help consumers overcome problems or something like that,” said Dimond.
“It’s version 1.0; we want to make sure the functionality is there and the user experience is where it needs to be. We’re going to build on that.”
